Standing Up for the Flag
When the city stood in the way of a giant American flag, Kyle Houston helped rally Statesville behind it.
For years, a Gander and Camping World store on the edge of Statesville wanted to fly a large American flag, 40 feet by 80 feet, over its property, and the city's flag ordinance stood in the way. Kyle Houston became one of the flag's most visible champions, arguing that a business should be free to fly the nation's colors and that the city had bigger things to worry about.
He took the case to the public. He pressed the issue on social media and on his radio show, framing it as a plain question of freedom and common sense, and he helped turn a zoning dispute into a community cause that ordinary residents could rally around.
After about four years of public pressure, the city moved on part of the matter, a moment Houston celebrated as proof that residents who organize can be heard. When the City Council later voted again to deny the full 40 by 80 flag, he kept the spotlight on the decision and pressed the council to put citizens first.

This is how government should work. It took 4 years, but the City Council has finally seen the light after persistent pressure. Great job freedom loving Patriots. You have a voice.
